Capital punishment, otherwise known as death penalty, is the extreme sentence a convicted person can receive. It has been employed in the legal systems in many states of the world. The matter on subject has seen different people take different paths in terms of opinion concerning the same. To some, it is just and fitting, but to others it is unfair and unjust.
Lex talionis (law of retaliation) has impacted an influence on the peole who advicate for capital punishment. In most cases, they present an argument that no alternative punishment could fit the crimes commited. Tit for tat is a fair game. this tend to be their slogan. An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Are they justified?
According to my own view of the subject matter, i would say that two wrongs cannot make a right. I choose to call a spade a spade and not a giant spoon. Execution and murder amount to the same thing (loss of human life). Execution according to me is murder carried outr by the state through a legal process, but here comes the mystery, which just legal systems would deny a human being his/herb right to life? In as much as i am for the abolition of the death penalty, i have reasons to justify my line of thinking.
First, the handlers of legal systems all over the world are human beings. Therefore, flaws during the legal processes may lead to excecution of innocent civilians. This has been evident in the past where inmates have been let out of death rows after being prooved innocent. Besides, capital punishment does not guarantee a complete eradication of crime. Moreover, capital punishment is uneconomical in that it costs alot before and during trials. It is more expensive compared to alternative sentences.
For this and many more reasons, I am of the port tyhat death penalty be abolished in all counries of the world.
