For many years, women have been segregated in work places. It has been very difficult for one to mention about gender equality at any office let alone in offices without being termed as a feminist or a chauvinist. Previously, the male have been dominating over the businesses as women sat back baby sitting or as doing house work chores. This led to rise of feminists who advocated for female rights and gender equality in the offices without considering intrinsic worth. However, it is important that employers should consider merit of workers rather than mere claims of gender balance. Therefore, employers should always consider their workers depending on their skills and academic level, thus, hiring competent workers. The following document shall discuss on why men and women should have same rights at work.
For close to a century now, women have been doing the same chores as those done by men. Dating from the world war one, women have played a major role in the society. For example, in Britain, the women had to work in the industries like the textile firms as their fought during the war. As a result, they were able to feed their families as well as run the industries. Therefore, women played the roles that men were supposed to play. This means that the women have the same potential as men. Thus, women should be allowed to have same rights as their male counterparts in businesses.
Moreover, the women’s businesses do blossom as much as those of their male counterparts. The women do have the potential to run their businesses to success. According to Kirdahy 2008, 50% of the successful private businesses are being owned by women. This is a good percentage to gauge the ability of women and their ability to run business. Additionally, women have registered with higher educational institutions. These educational institutions provide them with skills that will enable them run businesses successfully like their male counterparts in the field.
Despite the fact that women are being condoned for having weakness during the pregnancy and childrearing period, women can be able to run their businesses. Women can still work from their homes. Women can operate the home-based businesses as well as attending to their families. The Canadian industrial report made assumptions that with new technologies and knowledge will provide favorable conditions that will allow the women to work from their homes as they attend to their families. However, the women shall not be able to attend to their seniors Ward (2000).
Women are also reported to have more natural abilities than men that can be used to drive business to success. Krotz (2006) argues that due to women’s ability to create relationships, they can carry out their operational goals by explaining details to vendors, business partners and customers. This will help them in running the businesses.
Women have been exploited socially, politically and economically for many years now. It will be unfair to deny them this opportunity in this century. Therefore, women should be allowed to run businesses. To sum up, for the chauvinists, they need to come up with newer explanations to why women should not have same rights in running businesses compared to men. Therefore, women deserve the rights to be treated equally as their male counterparts. This is because they have the potential to do same jobs as the male; they can do better than men and they shall be able to do run the businesses with the technological support.
