With a degree in Technical Support and Repairs, you will understand the essential functionality of operating systems and basic troubleshooting methodology, practice correct safety measures. You will have a broad knowledge of the computer industry. You will apply system and technical analysis to hardware and software problems with positive results. You often will interact with users, both internal to your company or external customers, solving their software and hardware conflicts. Typically, without at least 500 hours of hands-on experience, a Technical Support & Repair position with most companies requires a minimum industry standard certification.

With the certification you will understand the fundamentals of computer technology, which includes identifying hardware, peripheral, networking, and security components. You will need to spend at least 40 hours studying and preparing for the final testing. The most common certification is the COMPTIA A+ ISO 17024 Accreditation. However, many online technical colleges offer certifications that cover a range of technical knowledge sought-after by employers.

With an associates degree you also need some general education requirements and electives and spend 4 semesters or 2 years (15 semester credit hours) of full time school. You can complete an online associate degree at your own pace, full-time or part-time. Accelerated online associate degree programs are available which are as full-bodied as the customary 2 years of study and honored the same as a traditional (on campus) educational degree.
