Outline for US state department
The Department of State is a U.S. foreign affairs agency. This organization also serves as the Secretary of State adviser on foreign policy. The organization is focused at implementation of president’s foreign policy in order to establish a more secure, free and prosperous conditions in the world. The department offers assistance to the foreign affairs operations for other government entities. These entities include the department of commerce and Agency for international development. The organization is also involved in provision of significant services to U.S citizens and immigrants. The organization is involved in development and implementation of foreign policy through the interagency coordination. The department also organizes the foreign affairs budget and other resources. The organization also coordinates the U.S consulates and embassies in foreign countries through diplomatic missions on international organizations. The department engages in negotiations that lead to agreements on issues elicited from trade on nuclear weapons.
The department transacts within a small workforce, which entails of the civil service and Foreign Service employees. The department has less people compared to the local governments. The foreign services officers’ offers representation of America through conducting analysis and reporting on economic, political, catering for the needs of the citizens abroad, social trends in the host country. This helps to U.S to maintain the relationship with other countries and other international organizations. The Civil service employees and foreign service employees work together in order to analyze and compile reports from other countries in order to provide logistical support to posts. This also facilitates informing the congress about foreign policy initiatives.
In terms of the organization design perspective, the department has an office of the secretary, which comprises of the Secretary’s chief of staff, the Deputy Secretary chief of staff, the Secretary’s secretary, the Executive Assistance, two special assistants the Secretary's scheduler, staff assistant, and two personal assistants. The function of this staff is to deal with the daily matters through the country and around the world. However, what seem to be puzzling on the design of the organization is the levels of bureaucracy which have ambiguous titles like the “Secretary’s secretary” who is followed by an Executive Assistance. The other thing is the occurrence of assistance who are special and other personal assistants. The personal assistants are not specified to whom they belong. This also contributes to the contradiction in the design of the organization.
The issue that is absurd about the current organization structure is that there is a there is a complication on the duties of different officials in the organization. This is due to the contradiction at the levels of the ranks in the administration department. Some of the official are acquitted more duties and responsibility that others. This makes some of other officials to be utilized entity through their contribution to the organization. It is evident that the Executive secretariat post is loaded with very many responsibilities compared to other post like the deputy secretariat.
Conclusively, the organization structure of this organization is confusing and it requires to be restructured in order to ensure that all the official in the administration department are assign the duties and responsibilities that best fits them. It is evident that the duties of the Deputy secretariat are not focused on in this design of administration.
