The industrial and economic prowess of the 21st century world has been greatly attributed to change of the 19th and early 20th century gender misconceptions about women and their role in society. Presently, women can be said to have evolved from far in the workforce and society in general. This paper will vividly present why there has been a huge change in gender roles, in present day world.
The ancient man made livelihoods in hunting and gathering, as population continued to swell the density of wild game and fruits decreased, this saw man move to cultivation. All this time the women were relegated to giving birth, rearing children, and cooking. The mid 20th century saw population increase even more leading to the creation of white color jobs and other skilled manpower careers where the tradition of relegation of women to the kitchen wanted to be continued. As economic recession continues the great minds have realized the need for both women are men to actively participate in careers such that economic gains could be realized. This among the drivers of change in women gender roles.
Women have the same mental ability as men, gender roles seemed to be the obstacle in the excellence of women. Chivalry, which spelled out certain ethical stands obviously favoring masculinity was the cause of all chaos in the workforce. The realization of this coupled with examples of successful women in the society has greatly influenced the gender roles. Men regarded women as the weaker sex. This has created the misconception that women should act like men to climb the ladder of their careers, although misplaced, this has enabled women to advance in careers. Some women are acting like men; others are using what makes them different from men: emotions and focus to excel in their careers. Aggressive women are treated as outliers since men expect women to be submissive even when situations do not allow for that. This notion is what has been fought leading to in-cooperation of women in the career world.
