Global warming
Global warming is a topic of environmental concern which has been creating a lot of talks over the world for many recent years. Global warming can be described well scientifically as the rising temperature of the atmosphere of the earth and the general rise of levels of the sea and oceans (Maslin, 2006). Scientist over the last century has noticed the significant rise of the earth’s temperature which has led to many negative effects to the world. The Global warming effect is attributed to several causes, which include the, greenhouse effect and natural causes. These green house effects are gases produced by human beings effects on the environment like the cutting of trees.
Global warming effects have become so worrying that international bodies like the United Nations environmental program (UNEP) has embarked on several attempts to curb its effect. The rising of the oceans level create some effects like the change of rain patterns. Here, places, which received rainfall, no longer receive it or the pattern of rain has changed making the places become more or less semi arid. This is mostly in the arctic zones of the world whereby the places have started being deserts. Apart from places becoming deserts, other negative effects of global warming include the heavy rainfall experienced in some parts which leads to floods and human activities death of many people (Archer, 2012). All these factors have arisen due to emissions of gases to the earth. Scientist noted that, the carbon dioxide emissions cause a lot of changes in the earth’s temperature. The human activities continue to release a lot of polluting gases to the atmosphere which carry a significant value change in the earth’s temperature.
The concentration of carbon dioxide and gases like methane averagely constitute to over 40%of the green house gases (Houghton, 2006). Many scientists argue that, with these alarming rates of rise of greenhouse gases the, world will soon become impossible to survive. Poor countries like the third world countries have since begun to fill the effects with such a problem. This is can be in mind that most of them contribute nothing to the rise of global warming. Oxade, (2003) argues “Global warming does not arise from the green house gases alone but also can arise from other natural factors like the variations of the solar activities “(p.34.). These variations can come from the suns reflections caused by things like volcanoes smokes. When a volcano erupts, it releases several gases and particles some of which may absorb or reflect a lot of solar energy from the sun. In so doing, a lot of energy will absorb to the earth surface. This leads to increase in the earth’s temperature. Very many environmental scholars have been studying this effect and have since developed the relationship between the temperature rises caused by these natural activities toward s the global warming effects (Simon, 2010).
In conclusion, global warming is if gone unanswered will lead to the earth’s serious effects. Since some people have started feeling the effect, it is everyone’s responsibility to try and curb this menace since it will affect everyone eventually. Governments, international bodies like the UN, organizations and companies like http://www.thepensters.com/kwani3/ should come up together and develop scientific solutions to this environmental problem that we are facing today. Industrial action should be taken to any companies that seriously violate the Kyoto protocol. The Kyoto protocol monitors the problem of climate change especially on matters of global warming. Powerful countries like the U.S.A, China and other European nations that constitute to large green house emitters should be given sanctions by the UN to reduce on their carbon dioxide emissions this will assist in fighting this problem.
