The Hug
May 9, 2012
Miles knew that he was at the brink of loosing his acting career with The Warmers if his current performance was anything to go by. His Director, Marshall was slowly loosing patience with him and only kept him longer because he was the most creative of the five in the group. Miles on the other hand owed to Marshall a lot since given different circumstances he would be fired. He new any lazy move this time round would land him to the firing squad and Hollywood would part of his dreams. “Miles, we are counting on you this time, or else…,” he heard Marshall say this not once, not twice in the recent weeks and this message sent chills in his spine and he had to figure out quickly a way to salvage his career. But no one knew what Miles was going through; he had just lost par...

Themes of Intolerance and Acceptance in Artificial Nigger by Flannery O’Connor
January 12, 2012
Artificial Nigger is a story of a man and his grandson who are intrigued by their trip to the city. Nelson has little exposure to the city and only believes what his grandfather tells him about the city. Mr. Head’s arrogance and control is seen throughout the trip especially in his conversation, how he reads out words in the ticket and seems to do things his way irrespective of who is around him. Nelson banks on his grandfather’s character for safety and self esteem all his life and to him there’s no greater hero at least before his grandfather betrays him in the city. Mr. Head’s demeaning attitude and utter disgust for black people is evident in the way he insistently seeks an answer from his grandson to identify them as niggers in the train. He seeks to have his g...

Vegans and Vegetarians
January 4, 2012
Introduction Very often, people find the two terms vegan and vegetarian very similar and are therefore not able to differentiate since they seem to carry the same meaning. However, with the diet regime and weight loss craze, three types of diets are mentioned, that is, raw, vegetarian and vegan diets. Vegetarianism by simple definition exclude meat in their diet; veganism excludes both meat and other animal products such as milk and eggs from the diet while raw excludes all cooked food and also comes with veganism. It is a common misconception that the vegetarian diet is exclusively consumption of vegetables however this diet is derived from plants. According to VegetarianVegan (par. 1), vegetarians can be classified in more than one type of food consumed namely; strict vegetarian, Lacto...

There is no hope of doing perfect research (Griffiths, 1998, p97). Do you agree?
January 4, 2012
Research according to the Nipissing University Research Council (2008) “is any original and systematic investigation undertaken in order to increase knowledge and understanding and to establish facts and principles”. Research is in two types both qualitative and quantitative which can take case study, experimental, historical, comparative and developmental analysis. The two forms of research attract indefinite variables that are causal factors of imperfect research in real time. Inconsistencies experienced during the research process cause imperfection in the results and hence no one research is flawless whether it serves the needs or the moment or not. Research is both a process of investigating and also verifying information or knowledge which makes people using the...

Is WikiLeaks a form of cyber crime?
December 16, 2011
Cyber crime is a 21stcentury vice that came hand in hand with digital technology especially the computers. It can be defined as any criminal activity involving fraud, spam, virus and the mass leakage of personal, government and company secrets. Now this brings us the question, is WikiLeaks a form of cyber crime? The argument based on this definition qualifies the activities of WikiLeaks as mass cyber fraud. WikiLeaks was criminal trespass of secretive information that diverted to remote computers to the whole world and hence compromising the security of nations. WikiLeaks Scandal has attracted international attention and also heavy penalties and jail term to its founder Julian Assange due to the heavy breach of secrecy among countries. Like physical crimes, the cyber crimes leave people vu...

Marketing: The Road to accomplish a Sale
December 5, 2011
Marketing: The Road to accomplish a Sale Any strategy to get you to the top has to have a prerequisite to have it become a success. Great and successful marketing of any brand has to be driven by the 6 P’s-product, price, promotion, place, passion & people as core ingredients if not must haves. It’s often said that a good marketer spends 20% of his/her time in the office and the rest 80% in the market. A marketer has to perceive the brand in the lens of the customer to make them believe and to have the brand appeal to them. Selling a brand is a journey which most marketers go wrong from the word GO. The odds begin when they package their product in a ‘selfish way’, that is, they put their interests first other than the customer’s. This brings us ...

Debt and Credit Cards
November 23, 2011
Debt and credit cards In this era of plastic money, two terms have been commonly used-credit card and debit card. Both cards are issued by banks and can be used to purchase items at stores and other points of purchase. The two however are distinct in that while debit cards allow purchase of items using available savings in the bank, credit cards allow one to make purchases on a line of credit and the monthly bill is deducted once cash hits the bank account. However, two forms of plastic money have their pro and cons hence need for financial discipline and education. Credit cards for example is a major reason why most people live in debt or end up bankrupt since they do not live within their financial means. Sustainable Livelihoods
November 22, 2011
Livelihoods can be described as simply as a way of fending for oneself or ones household. Communities in the inner city, suburban and rural livelihoods have many things in common while others are equally distinct. Rural, suburban and rural areas have rich and poor similarities, the only differences may only be the way of life and cost of living. Poverty is a distinct feature in description of livelihoods which may be a result of lacking sustainable livelihood and economic wellbeing. Poverty eradication models and goals have been developed and set with an aim of fighting poverty and promoting the livelihood and economic sustainability.
