How Is Sucrose Exacted From Sugar Cane?

September 8, 2012

Around 70 percent of the world's sugar supply is extracted from sugar cane, according to website of Sugar Knowledge International. This table sugar, also known as sucrose, is a combination of two simple sugar molecules: the simple carbohydrates fructose and glucose. It is stored in the sap of the sugar cane plant. Sugar Cane According to Sugar Knowledge International, sugar cane is a crop belonging to the grass family, and it is typically grown in tropical climates. The sugar cane plant produces sucrose when its leaves conduct the processes of photosynthesis. When the plant takes in carbon dioxide and water, these combine in a chemical reaction that uses the sun's energy. Sucrose and oxygen are the resulting products, and while the oxygen is released from the plant, su...

It is true, Teachers Practice Favoritism

July 20, 2012

Teachers respond more to students who express interest in the material taught in class. Nevertheless, other teachers are interested in the personal appeals they receive from individual students, making extra attention to such students appear discriminative. Therefore, I think teachers show favoritism among students because of their relationship in and out of class.             Personally, I think that it is difficult for teachers to assist the least participating students. The few students who are active and responsive during the teacher’s lessons turn out to be the “teacher’s pet.” The class views such a situation as favoritism when it is their fault to a certain extent. Most teachers even use favoritism as a ...

Cancer prevention

July 20, 2012

Last year, the American Institute for Cancer Research launched a new educational program called "The New American Plate," which calls for Americans to shift the proportions on their plates for lower weight and better health. By emphasizing how healthy proportions will look on the plate ("two-thirds of more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans; one-third or less animal protein") and offering recipes that emphasize the flavors, colors and textures of plant foods, the New American Plate has helped thousands of people consume a more varied and healthy diet. Lutein: Spinach, avocado and other yellow or leafy green vegetables contain lutein which concentrates in the retina and the lens where it reduces the risk for cataracts and macular degeneration, the leading preve...

Breast Cancer

July 20, 2012

Breast cancer is the unwanted growth of cells in the breast tissues. It is mainly classified in two categories: lobular carcinoma and ductal carcinoma. Lobular carcinoma is the one that starts in the lobules of the breast while ductal carcinoma occurs in the ducts that carry milk from breasts to nipples. Further, the cancer can be invasive (spreading to other tissues) or non-invasive (localised) in nature. Breast cancer generally occurs in the females but it is not completely obsolete in males. But females are 100 times more at a risk of developing breast cancer. Most of the cases of carcinoma are idiopathic, i.e. no certain causative factor can be described that causes the breast cancer. However, there are various patterns and predisposing factors enlisted that describe the vulnerability...

July 20, 2012

Smoking is a type of substance abuse, which involves the inhalation and exhalation of fumes from burning tobacco or cannabis in form cigars, cigarettes and pipes.  Therefore, a smoker is a person who is involved in smoking. Basically, there are two types of smokers i.e, Passive and active smokers. A person who willingly takes a cigarette, for pleasure, to reward himself, or after persuasion by different adverts and peer group influence is an active smoker. On the other hand passive smokers are involuntary “smokers”  who breathe contaminated air containing carcinogenic inhalants from an 'active'  smoker.  Until 1970s people didn't imagine of the existence of passive smokers, who were  at risk of developing lung cancer, heart disease and other...

Research

July 11, 2012

The Oxford  advanced  learner’s dictionary, defines research as an organized and systematic study or investigation,   aimed at  finding new facts or information in any discipline. The word “perfect” is an adjective which denotes a state of completeness which is unquestionable because it has no  single fault or error. Therefore a “perfect research” is a fact or invention which does not need any further modification because it is irrefutable and irrevocable. It is with this understanding  that I completely agree with Griffiths (1998, pg97) that there is no hope of doing a perfect research. I have the most recent examples which clearly substantiate this argument with the clarity it deserves.  On 05th February 1999, the Rus...

Hospitals

July 11, 2012

As defined by Miller (1997) a hospital is an institution which provides beds, meals, and constant care for patients as while they undergo medical therapy at the hands of professional physicians. These services are meant to restore the patients’ health. Currently the hospitals have diversified their functions. As compared to 100 years ago, hospitals have changed in a great way. This is because of the outbreak of different new diseases. A modern hospital is highly scientific and complexly institutionalized. This is due to introduction of diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. The industry has reached a point of where it need to decide what services to be provided and how cost effectively. The role of the hospital has been broadened crossing the limits of curative health care. Furthe...
